In not-so-promising signs for the housing market, permits to build new abodes, housing starts, and the number of new homes completed dipped in April from the previous month, according to the seasonally adjusted numbers in the latest residential sales report. The numbers of new permits, housing starts and finished homes hitting the market were all up year-over-year in April, according to the report. Housing starts are construction projects that have been started for new residences. It's too early to tell whether the slowdown is temporary or will continue, worsening the housing shortage. Centennial is a Home Rule City by a 2-1 margin

The unofficial results from the June 10 mail-in ballot show the measure to institute Centennial's proposed home-rule charter passed resoundingly by a greater than 2-1 margin."My biggest comment is woohoo!" said an elated Cathy Noon, chair of the elected Centennial Charter Commission, which drafted the municipal constitution."I just want to say this is the most wonderful news for all of us," she told a roomful of cheering commissioners, city officials and other home-rule supporters at a victory party.The mood there already was ecstatic by 7:30 p.m., when initial results showed the charter passing by some 7,000 votes - a far cry from the razor-thin 316-vote margin that created the charter commission last November.Many on both sides of the contentious debate over home rule had predicted a close call either way, and few were certain that the charter would pass at all."I thought it would be closer than this," Noon said. Consumer Demand Brings Rising Home Prices

February Statistics Report Motivated by increasing home values, sellers brought 4,537 new listings to the market in February, a 14 percent increase as compared to last month and a four percent year-over-year increase. The new inventory was quickly scooped up by buyers eager to make purchases, which kept sales strong. The number of properties that sold in February was up 13 percent as compared to last month. Additionally, the number of homes that went under contract was up 15 percent month over month and saw a seven percent year-over-year increase. The decline in the number of available homes that began in July 2014 continued into the first quarter, keeping inventory at historically-low levels. At the close of February, 5,087 active listings were on the market, a one percent decrease over last month and 25 percent lower than last year.
